Although <a href=\"https:\/\/mirandalacydds.com\/teeth-whitening-plano.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"teeth whitening products (opens in a new tab)\">teeth whitening products<\/a> can brighten your smile, they won\u2019t help your breath smell fresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Causes Bad Breath?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several factors are reviewed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Bacteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bacteria in your mouth is the most common cause of bad breath. In addition to brushing your teeth daily, floss between them. Flossing removes food debris that promotes bacteria. If bacteria get stuck between your teeth, it will begin to smell bad. Some people benefit from a tongue cleaner to remove bacteria. Others gently brush their tongue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Gum Disease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infected gum tissue breeds bacteria. Gums can get inflamed and pus-filled and cause a foul odor on your breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Dry Mouth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saliva cleanses your mouth. Lack of saliva production causes\nbacteria to breed and make your breath smell bad. Breathing through your mouth,\ninstead of your nose, will also decrease saliva production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. GERD<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When stomach acid flows up your esophagus, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs. The backup of regurgitated food can cause your breath to smell bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Liver Disease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your liver removes toxins from your body. If your liver isn\u2019t functioning properly, toxins can build up in your bloodstream and cause a sweet, musty odor on your breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Kidney Disease<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malfunctioning kidneys cause minerals to collect in your\nbloodstream. The result is often a metallic taste in your mouth and breath that\nsmells like ammonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Extreme Low-Carb Diet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re on an extremely low-carb diet, your body will burn fat, instead of sugar. Fat burning releases ketones in your body, including acetone, which can make your breath smell like nail polish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Pneumonia<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phlegm from the bacterial or viral infection in your lung has a bad odor. As you cough it up, it will affect the smell of your breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9.
